Tip#1-Pack - In riding long distances a good idea for packing your things is to keep them all wrapped tightly in plastic, zip lock bags are great for smaller miscellaneous item while larger garbage bags are great to keep your clothes in. Even with the best saddlebags this will be a sure bet that your things stay dry on rainy days.
Tip#2-Learn - Make sure you know your route. Pay close attention to your morning briefing. Even when riding with others in a group there is still a chance of missing a turn and losing your way. Always keep a map handy and look it over before you go on any ride. It could be crucial when in unfamiliar territory.
Tip#3-Gear - Always bring or dress in layers. When riding through mountains or near the coast the air temp
erature can change suddenly dropping sometimes 10 to 20 degrees. There is nothing worse than riding long
distances with a cold wind against your chest. Remember you can always take layers off.
Tip#4-Gear - Wearing protective gear while riding is a must. A DOT-Department of Transportation approved helmet, sturdy leather pants and jacket. Make sure your boots are gripped and cover your ankles. Leather gloves will also ensure safety while riding.
